Best Nespresso Machine for Lattes: 7 Hot & Iced Picks (2026)
On this page21
The best Nespresso machine for lattes is usually not the one built around milk. On Amazon US, the machines that froth milk in a separate Aeroccino jug are rated higher than the ones with a one-touch milk system.
That surprised us, because the competing guides we read put the Creatista and Lattissima machines at the top. The owner ratings point the other way.
A Nespresso setup makes a latte in one of three ways: a one-touch milk system finishes the drink by itself, an Aeroccino jug froths beside the machine, and a steam wand textures milk in a pitcher held under it.
For this 2026 guide, we read the star average and rating count on 24 Amazon listings ourselves: more than 27,000 owner ratings in all. We set them beside maker specifications, expert reviews, and owner reports from retailer pages and forums.

How we chose these Nespresso machines for 2026

We research rather than test, and we would rather say so plainly than imply otherwise. You can read exactly how we work on our about page.
For this guide we compared Nespresso, De'Longhi and Breville specifications, published reviews from established outlets, owner reports on retailer pages and coffee forums, and the full Amazon rating base for every candidate.
Individual Amazon review texts now sit behind a sign-in wall, so we do not claim to have read them. What we did read, listing by listing, is the star average and the size of the review base.
Stock and price came from Amazon's own product API on the day we published, not from a shopping page.
Three rules shaped this list. Every pick had to be in stock and sold by Amazon itself, had to make a latte or complete one, and had to do a job no other pick already did.
We normally drop anything under 4.0 stars. Two machines here sit at 3.9, and we kept them on purpose, because they are the one-touch latte machines with the most owner ratings behind them. We say so in their sections.

Hot lattes only, or iced ones too?

Every setup here makes a hot latte, but only the ones with an Aeroccino jug can make cold foam for an iced one. That single difference decides which milk system you should buy.
A one-touch milk machine draws milk from its own jug or tank, steams it with heat from the coffee machine, and pours a finished cappuccino or latte macchiato into the glass.
The Lattissima One and the Vertuo Lattissima work this way, and neither lists a cold foam setting.
An Aeroccino setup is what Amazon lists as a Nespresso machine with milk frother: a coffee machine paired with a small heated jug. A magnetic whisk spins the milk inside it, and a cold setting froths it without any heat.
That jug can live on the same base, as on the CitiZ & Milk, or stand beside the machine, as with every Vertuo bundle here.
A milk frother jug between a hot cappuccino and an iced latte topped with cold foam.
Every setup that makes cold foam does it with an Aeroccino jug. The one-touch machines trade that for a single button.
One-touch machines make the most convenient hot latte Nespresso offers, and they ask the least of you on a busy morning.
Aeroccino setups ask for one extra step, and in return they make iced drinks properly, sit higher in the owner ratings, and keep the milk system separate from the coffee machine.

The 7 best Nespresso machines for lattes

The best Nespresso machine for lattes is the CitiZ & Milk, followed by the Vertuo Pop+ with Aeroccino and the Essenza Mini paired with a frother.
Six of our picks are coffee machines, and the seventh is the frother that turns a Nespresso you already own into a latte maker. The ranking runs from the setup we would buy first to the newest machine on the shelf.

1. Nespresso CitiZ & Milk

The CitiZ & Milk is the least fashionable machine on this list and the one with the strongest evidence behind it. It has sold for years, and 2,253 Amazon owners rate it 4.6 stars.
The design explains a lot. An Original line espresso machine and an Aeroccino 3 frother share one base and one plug, so the milk system sits beside the coffee path rather than inside it.
De'Longhi builds it as part of its EN267 family. Its US spec sheet lists a 19-bar pump, a 25-second heat-up, a 33.8 oz water tank and a used-capsule container that holds ten.
Nespresso CitiZ & Milk by De'Longhi

Nespresso CitiZ & Milk by De'Longhi

Rated 4.6 from 2,253 ratings

An Original line espresso machine and an Aeroccino 3 frother on one base. The best-rated way to make a hot or iced latte from a Nespresso.

Key details

  • Brews Original capsules as espresso or lungo
  • Aeroccino 3 on the same base, hot or cold foam
  • 19-bar pump with a 25-second heat-up
  • 33.8 oz removable water tank
  • Used-capsule container holds ten
  • Two-position cup support takes latte glasses

What we like

  • Highest rating on a deep base among the full latte setups here
  • Makes cold foam, so iced lattes work properly
  • Takes Original capsules from many roasters, not just Nespresso
  • One footprint and one plug for coffee and milk

Watch out for

  • A latte takes three steps: brew, froth, pour
  • The Aeroccino 3 jug is hand wash only
  • Separates cost less than this combined base

$362.75

Amazon.com price as of 29/10/2026. Details

Owner reports describe a machine people keep for a long time. Retailer reviews and forum threads mention units still running after many years with nothing more than regular descaling.
Where complaints do appear, they gather on the frother rather than the brewer. A minority of owners report an Aeroccino that stopped working or leaked after about a year, while the coffee side carried on.
That pattern is the quiet argument for this design. A tired frother is a frother problem, and the machine that makes your espresso keeps working.
Its one real weakness is value. The Essenza Mini plus an Aeroccino XL costs less than this base and froths nearly twice as much milk per cycle.
What the CitiZ & Milk adds for that money is a bigger tank, a bigger capsule bin, a cup support with a position for tall latte glasses, and one tidy footprint.
Buy it if you want the most dependable latte setup Nespresso makes, with the freedom to buy pods from Starbucks by Nespresso, Peet's or Lavazza as well as Nespresso's own.

2. Nespresso Vertuo Pop+ with Aeroccino

The Vertuo Pop+ Deluxe with Aeroccino is the cheapest complete latte setup on this list, and nothing about the rating suggests a compromise. This Titan finish rates 4.4 stars across 1,202 owners.
It is a compact Vertuo machine bundled with an Aeroccino 3. The listing promises five coffee sizes, including 5, 8 and 12 oz coffees, plus single and double espressos brewed hot or over ice.
The product photo for this bundle shows Breville branding on the base. Nespresso licenses both Breville and De'Longhi to build its machines, and this finish is the Breville build.
Nespresso Vertuo Pop+ Deluxe with Aeroccino (Titan)

Nespresso Vertuo Pop+ Deluxe with Aeroccino (Titan)

Rated 4.4 from 1,202 ratings

A compact Vertuo machine with an Aeroccino 3 in the box. The lowest price on this list for a setup that makes hot and iced lattes.

Key details

  • Five sizes, from single espresso to a 12 oz coffee
  • Brews hot or over ice
  • 37 oz removable side water tank
  • 30-second heat-up and automatic pod ejection
  • Adjustable drip tray for shorter cups
  • Aeroccino 3 for hot or cold foam

What we like

  • The lowest-priced complete latte setup we rank
  • One Double Espresso pod covers a two-shot latte
  • Cold foam and over-ice brewing in one bundle
  • A 4.4 rating across 1,202 owners in this finish

Watch out for

  • No 18 oz size, unlike larger Vertuo models
  • Vertuo pod choice is almost all Nespresso and Starbucks
  • Other finishes carry separate, smaller rating bases

$135.46Save 32%

Amazon.com price as of 29/10/2026. Details

A detail worth knowing before you choose a color. Amazon does not pool the Pop+ ratings across finishes, so the Coconut White, Liquorice Black and De'Longhi Silver bundles each carry their own count.
Those other finishes read 4.4 across 1,015, 4.4 across 685, and 4.2 across 415 at the time of writing. We link the Titan because it has the deepest base.
Reviewers of the original Vertuo Pop criticized its small water tank. The Pop+ moved to a 37 oz tank on the side, and a latte uses very little water anyway, since the milk comes from the fridge.
The catch is the pod format. Vertuo pods are read by a barcode on the rim, and when we searched Amazon for Vertuo-compatible pods, every top result was Nespresso's own.
Choose it if you want a Nespresso machine with a milk frother for the least money, hot and iced lattes both, and you are happy buying pods from one family.

3. Nespresso Essenza Mini

The Essenza Mini does not froth milk at all. It earns its place because it is the best-rated Nespresso we found and the smallest, and because pairing it with a frother beats the CitiZ & Milk on price.
This De'Longhi build, model EN85, holds 4.6 stars across 6,076 owners. The Breville version is a separate listing with its own 4.5 across 5,099.
It brews Original capsules at two programmable sizes, a 40 ml espresso and a 110 ml lungo, from a 19-bar pump and a 0.6 liter tank that Nespresso puts at 20.3 oz.
Nespresso Essenza Mini by De'Longhi (EN85)

Nespresso Essenza Mini by De'Longhi (EN85)

Rated 4.6 from 6,076 ratings

The smallest Original line machine and the best rated Nespresso we read. Pair it with an Aeroccino for a latte setup that undercuts the bundles.

Key details

  • Brews Original capsules as espresso or lungo
  • Two programmable cup sizes
  • 19-bar pump with a fast heat-up
  • 20.3 oz water tank
  • Used-capsule container holds six
  • 1150 W, narrow enough for the tightest counter

What we like

  • The deepest rating base on this page, at 4.6
  • Smallest footprint of any machine we rank
  • With an Aeroccino XL it costs less than the CitiZ & Milk
  • Takes Original capsules from many roasters

Watch out for

  • No frother in the box, so a latte needs a second purchase
  • Small tank means refilling every few lungos
  • The capsule bin fills after six pods

$168.33Save 11%

Amazon.com price as of 29/10/2026. Details

Here is the arithmetic that put it on a latte list. The Essenza Mini at $170.44 plus the Aeroccino XL at $109.00 comes to $279.44, against $361.68 for the CitiZ & Milk.
You get the larger frother, which makes 7.6 oz of foam instead of 4.1 oz, and two appliances that can each be replaced on their own.
Amazon does list the Essenza Mini bundled with an Aeroccino, but only through a third-party seller at $299.97 when we checked. Buying the two Nespresso items separately from Amazon was cheaper.
The trade-offs are the tank and the bin. Owner reviews note that 20.3 oz of water runs out after a handful of lungos and that the container holds only six used capsules.
For one or two lattes a day, neither matters much: a single espresso uses only 1.35 oz of water.
It is the right pick if counter space is tight, you want the best-rated Nespresso we read, and you are happy to choose the frother yourself.

4. Nespresso Aeroccino XL

The Aeroccino XL is the pick for what is probably the largest group of readers here: people who already own a Nespresso and want it to make lattes.
It is a stand-alone frother, reference 4392, and it does three things: hot foam, cold foam and hot milk. Owners hold it at 4.3 stars across 565 ratings.
The XL in the name is the point. Its listing gives a foam capacity of 7.6 fl oz and a hot milk capacity of 13.5 fl oz, against roughly 4.1 and 8.1 oz for the Aeroccino 3 bundled with most machines here.
Nespresso Aeroccino XL Milk Frother (4392)

Nespresso Aeroccino XL Milk Frother (4392)

Rated 4.3 from 565 ratings

A large Nespresso frother with hot foam, cold foam and hot milk settings. Enough foam for two lattes per cycle, beside any coffee machine.

Key details

  • Three settings: hot foam, cold foam and hot milk
  • Up to 7.6 fl oz of foam per cycle
  • Up to 13.5 fl oz of hot milk per cycle
  • Dishwasher resistant to 158 degrees F
  • 8 inches tall with its base
  • Switches itself off after preparation

What we like

  • Turns any Nespresso, Original or Vertuo, into a latte setup
  • Foam for two drinks in one cycle
  • Dishwasher resistant, unlike the Aeroccino 3
  • If it fails, the coffee machine is untouched

Watch out for

  • Not a coffee maker, so it needs a machine beside it
  • Costs nearly as much as some complete Vertuo bundles
  • A tall jug that wants its own spot on the counter

$109.00

Amazon.com price as of 29/10/2026. Details

That extra capacity changes how a two-person morning goes. One cycle covers two cappuccinos or one large latte, where the Aeroccino 3 needs a second cycle and a rinse in between.
The dishwasher rating matters more than it sounds. Nespresso tells owners never to put the Aeroccino 3 in a dishwasher, because the jug base carries the electrical contact, so it is hand washed after every use.
The XL's listing calls it dishwasher resistant up to 158 degrees F. Choose a cycle that stays below that and it goes in with the cups.
The drawback is price. At $109.00 it costs most of what the whole Vertuo Pop+ bundle does, so it makes sense only if you already own a machine or are buying one without a frother.
Plant milk drinkers should read our guide to frothers for oat milk, which ranks the XL against seven other frothers on oat foam specifically.
Buy it if you own any Nespresso and want lattes for two, or if you are pairing it with the Essenza Mini.

5. Nespresso Lattissima One

We need to be straight about this one before anything else. The Lattissima One holds 3.9 stars across 885 Amazon ratings, under our usual 4.0 bar.
We kept it because it is the most compact and least expensive Original machine on Amazon that makes a cappuccino at one touch. If that convenience is the whole reason you are shopping, no other pick here does it.
The idea is clever. A small single-serve milk jug attaches to the machine, you pour in milk for one drink, and the machine froths it with its own steam and pours a cappuccino, latte macchiato or espresso macchiato.
Nespresso Lattissima One by De'Longhi (EN510)

Nespresso Lattissima One by De'Longhi (EN510)

Rated 3.9 from 885 ratings

The compact one-touch Original machine: a single-serve milk jug feeds three milk recipes, so no carafe of milk is left on the counter.

Key details

  • Brews Original capsules as espresso or lungo
  • Three one-touch milk recipes
  • Single-serve milk jug with a detachable lid
  • Froths with steam from the machine
  • Compact footprint for a milk machine
  • 19-bar pump for Original capsules

What we like

  • A cappuccino from one button, milk included
  • Single-serve jug means no milk sits out between drinks
  • Original pods, so the widest choice of capsules
  • Smaller than the carafe-based Lattissimas

Watch out for

  • A 3.9 rating, with complaints centered on the milk side
  • No cold foam setting listed
  • Two drinks means refilling the jug in between

$316.65Save 26%

Amazon.com price as of 29/10/2026. Details

Owner reports on retailer sites explain the rating. Complaints gather around the frother stopping, lights flashing between buttons, and returns for a milk system that would not foam.
Plenty of owners describe the opposite experience and call it the easiest latte they have made. A 3.9 is a split decision, not a failure.
Amazon pools the rating across both finishes, so the Shadow Black we link and the Silky White report the same 885 ratings.
The single-serve jug is both the charm and the limit. Nothing sits in a carafe going warm, but a second drink means rinsing and refilling the jug, which is slower than one Aeroccino cycle for two.
Go for it if one-touch hot milk drinks matter more to you than iced ones or ratings, and register it the day it arrives. Nespresso promises at least a one-year warranty on every machine.

6. Nespresso Vertuo Lattissima

The Vertuo Lattissima is the one-touch latte machine for Vertuo pods, and it shares the Lattissima One's verdict from owners: 3.9 stars, here across 515 ratings.
We kept it for the same reason. It is the only Vertuo machine on Amazon with a built-in one-touch milk system, and it adds the large mug sizes Original cannot brew.
De'Longhi builds it as the ENV300. The listing promises six coffee sizes, including 5, 8, 12 and 18 oz, plus single and double espressos, hot or over ice, and one-touch cappuccinos, lattes and hot foam.
Nespresso Vertuo Lattissima by De'Longhi (ENV300)

Nespresso Vertuo Lattissima by De'Longhi (ENV300)

Rated 3.9 from 515 ratings

One-touch cappuccinos and lattes on Vertuo pods, with a 16 oz detachable milk tank and coffee sizes up to 18 oz.

Key details

  • Six sizes, from single espresso to an 18 oz coffee
  • One-touch cappuccino, latte and hot foam
  • 16 fl oz detachable milk tank, dishwasher safe
  • Brews coffee hot or over ice
  • 30-second heat-up with a descaling alert
  • Adjustable drip tray

What we like

  • The only Vertuo with a built-in one-touch milk system
  • A 16 oz milk tank covers several drinks in a row
  • Large mug sizes for long milky coffees
  • Milk tank washes in the dishwasher

Watch out for

  • A 3.9 rating, the same as the Lattissima One
  • No cold foam, so iced drinks get cold milk only
  • The most expensive pick on our list

$379.99Save 28%

Amazon.com price as of 29/10/2026. Details

Expert reviewers have been warm about it. They single out the built-in rinse, which flushes the milk path with water from the tank and makes the daily clean easy.
The owner complaints are about reliability and service rather than the foam. Retailer reviews include a machine that emptied its water tank onto the counter, and an owner told to ship a nine-month-old unit away for repair.
Amazon pools its rating across the white we link and the black, which costs $396.99 at the time of writing.
The 16 oz milk tank is its practical advantage over the Lattissima One. You can make drinks back to back, and reviewers note that the tank goes straight into the fridge between sessions.
Buy it if you want Vertuo coffee, hot milk drinks at one touch, and room for several in a row. If iced lattes are a habit, the Vertuo Up serves you better for half the price.

7. Nespresso Vertuo Up with Aeroccino

The Vertuo Up is the newest Vertuo machine, launched in 2026, and its rating base is still thin. This white bundle holds 4.4 stars across only 89 ratings.
We include it with that caveat because of two features aimed squarely at milk drinks. A Coffee Creations button brews a more concentrated coffee for milk and ice, and the listing says it is ready to brew in 3 seconds.
It also has the largest tank on this list at 47 oz, in a position you can move to suit the counter, and it comes with an Aeroccino jug for hot and cold foam.
Nespresso Vertuo Up with Aeroccino (White)

Nespresso Vertuo Up with Aeroccino (White)

Rated 4.4 from 89 ratings

The newest Vertuo machine, with a Coffee Creations button for a stronger brew over milk or ice and an Aeroccino jug in the box.

Key details

  • Six sizes, from single espresso to an 18 oz coffee
  • Coffee Creations button for a concentrated brew
  • Aeroccino jug for hot or cold foam
  • 47 oz water tank with a movable position
  • Ready to brew in 3 seconds
  • Connects to the Nespresso app

What we like

  • Stronger coffee for milk drinks without a second pod
  • Largest water tank of any machine we rank
  • Cold foam and over-ice brewing in one bundle
  • An early 4.4 rating

Watch out for

  • Only 89 ratings on this listing so far
  • The black finish rates 4.0 across 146, separately
  • Costs more than the Vertuo Pop+ bundle

$279.00

Amazon.com price as of 29/10/2026. Details

The Coffee Creations button is the reason to pay more than you would for the Pop+. A common complaint about pod lattes is coffee that tastes thin under 10 oz of milk, and a deliberately concentrated brew attacks exactly that.
Early owner reviews on retailer sites are positive about the coffee and less so about the temperature, with a few saying drinks come out cooler than they would like.
Two finishes, two separate verdicts. The Ink Black bundle reads 4.0 across 146 ratings, a slightly deeper base than the white we link.
We link the white because it holds the better score today. With bases this small, treat both numbers as provisional and check the listing before you buy.
We also chose the Up over its predecessor, the Vertuo Next, for a reason we explain below under the machines that missed the cut.
Buy it if you want Vertuo, drink lattes over ice, and accept that this is an early verdict. If the price gap matters, the Vertuo Pop+ covers the basics.

How a Nespresso milk frother works

A Nespresso milk frother either spins milk in a heated jug with a magnetic whisk, or draws it into a frothing head with steam from the coffee machine.
Each system puts the milk in a different place. That single difference explains most of the cleaning, the cold foam question, and the repair story.
An Aeroccino is a small jug with a heating element in its base and a magnetic whisk inside. A magnet in the stand spins the whisk through the jug's floor, so the milk never enters the coffee machine.
A one-touch milk system mixes milk with steam from the coffee machine in a frothing head, which draws the milk up from its jug or tank by suction, the venturi effect. The milk path is part of the machine.
Overhead of the parts that touch milk: a frother jug and whisk beside a milk tank and its tube.
A jug and its whisk are the whole milk path. A one-touch system adds a frothing head and the tube that feeds it.
A steam wand is the third route, and the only Nespresso with one that Amazon US had in stock when we checked is the Vertuo Creatista. It gives you the most control over texture and the most to clean.

From maker listings and specifications. The steam wand row describes the Vertuo Creatista, which we did not rank.
Three things follow from that table. Cold foam needs a whisk spinning in unheated milk, which is why only the jugs offer it.
Cleaning is simplest where the milk path is shortest. An Aeroccino is one jug and one whisk; a one-touch system adds a frothing head and the tube that feeds it.
And a fault stays where the milk is. A jug that stops heating means buying a new jug, while a one-touch milk fault sends the whole machine away, coffee and all.

What owner ratings say about built-in frothers

On Amazon US, all three one-touch Nespresso milk machines sit at 3.9 stars. Every setup that pairs a machine with an Aeroccino reads 4.0 or higher, and most land between 4.2 and 4.6.
This finding shaped our ranking, so it gets its own section.
A one-touch milk machine at 3.9 stars beside a capsule machine with a frother jug at 4.0 to 4.6.
Every one-touch milk machine on Amazon US sits at 3.9. Every machine paired with an Aeroccino reads 4.0 or higher.

Read on Amazon US at the time of writing. For our picks we show the listing we link; for the rest, the listing with the deepest rating base.
A star average is not a failure rate, and we cannot read the review texts behind it, so we cannot say why each owner scored the way they did.
What we can say is where the complaints gather in the reports we could read on other retailers and forums. For the one-touch machines, they gather on frothers that stopped, leaks, and service.
That fits the design. A one-touch machine is a coffee machine and a milk machine in one body, so it has more ways to go wrong and every one of them takes the whole appliance with it.
The steam wands split the result. The Creatista Plus, an Original machine, reads 4.2 across 1,949, while the newer Vertuo Creatista reads 3.6 across 311.
So the rule is not "milk inside the machine is bad". It is narrower: on today's shelf, the one-touch machines have earned less owner trust than a machine plus an Aeroccino, and we ranked accordingly.

Famous Nespresso machines that missed the cut

Five machines that appear in competing guides are not on our list. Each one failed a rule we can state plainly.
The Creatista Plus is the top pick in several "best Nespresso for lattes" guides we read. It is an Original machine with an automatic steam wand, and its 4.2 across 1,949 ratings would qualify.
It could not be bought new from Amazon US when we checked: out of stock, with no live price. A recommendation you cannot act on is not much of a recommendation.
The Vertuo Creatista is the steam wand machine you can buy, at $524.00. Its main listing reads 3.6 across 311 ratings, and its two other finishes read 3.9 across 19 and 2.9 across 27.
Owner reports describe a wand that stops mid-steam with an attach-the-tip error and faults appearing around the first year. If texture control is the goal, a real espresso machine with a wand does it better for less.
The Gran Lattissima offers nine one-touch drinks and a milk container you can put in the fridge, at $479.00. It reads the same 3.9 as the Lattissimas we kept, on a far thinner 148 ratings and at a higher price.
The VertuoPlus Deluxe with Aeroccino, a long-time favorite in Vertuo guides, holds 4.5 across 3,863 ratings. It was out of stock on Amazon in every bundle we checked.
The Vertuo Next is the one we left out deliberately. Its Deluxe bundle with an Aeroccino reads 4.1 across 1,352 and is in stock at $259.00.
But a proposed class action filed in federal court in New York in February 2025, Fahey-Ramirez v. Nespresso USA, alleges that the Vertuo Next leaks water in normal use. Those are allegations, and the case had not been decided when we checked.

For lattes, Original vs Vertuo comes down to shots: one Vertuo Double Espresso pod makes a two-shot latte, where Original needs two capsules.
Most guides compare the two lines by price per pod. For a latte that is the wrong unit, because a latte is built from espresso shots and the two lines pack a shot differently.
An Original espresso capsule brews one shot, 40 ml or 1.35 oz. A two-shot latte therefore takes two capsules.
A Vertuo machine reads a barcode on each pod and brews the size printed in it. Vertuo has a single Espresso pod, and it also has a Double Espresso pod that brews 80 ml, or 2.7 oz, two shots from one pod.

Shot counts follow the standard Starbucks builds for short, tall, grande and venti lattes. Size your own drink to taste.
The pattern is simple. At one shot the lines are even, and at two shots Vertuo needs half as many pods.
That is why the cost section below compares the price of a latte, not the price of a pod. A Vertuo pod costs more than an Original capsule, but a two-shot Vertuo latte uses one.
Nespresso also sells pods blended for milk. Its Barista Creations Bianco pods for Vertuo, for example, are made to stay strong under milk, which helps if your lattes taste thin.
Original keeps one real advantage: it is an open format. Original capsules come from Nespresso and from other roasters, while Vertuo pods come almost entirely from Nespresso and from Starbucks by Nespresso.
That openness reaches beyond Nespresso's own machines. The Ninja espresso and coffee system in our dual coffee maker guide takes Original capsules too, a sign of how widely the format is supported.

Tank size, glass height, and the fridge

Three practical details decide whether a latte setup is pleasant to live with, and none of them shows up in a product photo.
The first is the water tank. A latte shot uses 1.35 to 2.7 oz of water, so tank size matters far less here than on a coffee maker, but it still sets how often you walk to the sink.
On this list the tanks run from 20.3 oz on the Essenza Mini, through 33.8 oz on the CitiZ & Milk and 37 oz on the Vertuo Pop+, to 47 oz on the Vertuo Up.
The second is glass height. A latte macchiato in a tall glass needs clearance: the CitiZ & Milk has a cup support with a position for latte glasses, and the Vertuo Pop+ and Vertuo Lattissima use adjustable drip trays.
Measure your favorite glass before you buy. A machine that cannot fit it turns every latte into a two-container job.
The third is the fridge. With an Aeroccino, unused milk goes back into the carton. With the Vertuo Lattissima's 16 oz tank, reviewers note you can put the tank itself in the fridge.
The Lattissima One avoids the question by using a jug sized for one drink. That is tidy for one person and slower for two.
Noise barely separates them. Every machine here makes a few seconds of pump or spin noise while it brews, and De'Longhi describes the Aeroccino as frothing without noise or vibration.

The case against a Nespresso latte

We would be writing an ad, not a guide, if we skipped this. Ask an espresso enthusiast which Nespresso is best for lattes, and you will hear that any pod latte is a compromise.
They are right in two ways.
First, the coffee. An espresso machine with a built-in grinder and fresh beans makes a richer shot than any capsule, and it costs less per drink once the machine is paid off.
Second, the milk. A manual steam wand makes the glossy microfoam latte art needs, and no Aeroccino or one-touch system makes milk that pours a rosetta. Our guide to espresso machines for latte art covers the machines that do.
What the enthusiast case leaves out is the morning you actually have. A Nespresso latte takes a couple of minutes, needs no skill, makes no grounds, and tastes the same on the fortieth day as on the first.
For a household that wants a good latte every day without a hobby attached, that consistency is the product. Decide which of those two mornings you are buying for.

What a Nespresso latte costs in pods

A two-shot Nespresso latte costs about $1.14 to $2.59 in pods on Amazon at the time of writing, depending on the line and the roaster.
The machine is a one-time cost. The pods are the cost you keep paying, so here is how that range breaks down.

Amazon US prices at the time of writing, sold by Amazon. Pod prices move often; milk is extra and the same on every machine.
Two findings stand out. Nespresso's own Vertuo Double Espresso pod makes a cheaper two-shot latte than Nespresso's own Original capsules, the reverse of a simple price-per-pod comparison.
But Original wins as soon as you buy from other roasters. Starbucks by Nespresso and Peet's capsules bring a two-shot latte down to about $1.14 to $1.24.
Two heaps of coffee capsules: 730 Original capsules and 365 Vertuo pods, a year of daily lattes.
Vertuo halves the pod count but not the box count, because Vertuo sleeves hold 30 pods and Original boxes hold 50.
Counted over a year of one two-shot latte a day, the difference is clearer in units than in dollars. Original takes 730 capsules, which is about 15 boxes of 50.
Vertuo takes 365 Double Espresso pods, which is about 13 boxes of 30. Half the pods, but nearly as many deliveries.
Nespresso runs a free recycling program for its own capsules, and the Vertuo listings point to it. Check whether a third-party brand you buy offers the same before you count on it.

When to buy

Nespresso machines are discounted often and deeply. At the time of writing, most of the machines on this list showed savings of 25 to 32 percent against their list prices on Amazon.
The best dates are the usual ones: Prime Day in July, Prime Big Deal Days in October, and Black Friday through the gift season. If the machine you want is already 25 percent off, there is little reason to wait.
Pods are where patience pays over time, because you keep buying them for as long as you own the machine. Stock up on the larger boxes when they dip.
The live prices on this page update daily, so the buttons always show today's number before you commit.

How to make an iced latte on a Nespresso

To make an iced latte on a Nespresso, froth cold milk first, fill a glass with ice, brew a double shot over it, then add the milk and foam.
This is where the Aeroccino setups earn their place, and the order of the steps matters more than the recipe.
The aim is cold foam on top, cold milk below, and a shot that melts as little ice as possible.
Four steps to a Nespresso iced latte: froth cold milk, add ice, brew the shot, then add foam.
Froth first, brew last. The jug finishes its cold cycle while you fill the glass, and the shot meets ice that is still hard.

An iced latte, step by step

  1. Froth the milk cold, first

Fill the Aeroccino to the lower line with milk straight from the fridge and choose the cold setting. On the Aeroccino 3 that means holding the button until the light turns blue.

Tip Barista-style oat or whole milk holds cold foam longest. Skim foams fast but collapses fast.

  2. Fill a tall glass with ice

Use a 16 to 24 oz glass and fill it about two thirds with ice. Larger cubes melt more slowly than crushed ice.

  3. Brew the shot over the ice

On Original, brew one or two espresso capsules straight into the glass. On Vertuo, use a Double Espresso pod, or the Coffee Creations button on the Vertuo Up.

Watch out For a latte, skip the long coffee sizes. A 12 oz brew melts the ice and leaves a weak, watery drink.

  4. Add cold milk, then the foam

Pour in cold milk to just below the rim, then spoon the cold foam from the jug on top.

  5. Sweeten in the glass, never the jug

Stir syrup into the glass before the foam goes on. Additives in the Aeroccino jug can damage its coating.

The one-touch Lattissimas can still make a decent iced coffee by brewing over ice and adding cold milk. What they cannot add is the cold foam layer, which is the part that makes an iced latte feel like a cafe drink.
A hot latte follows the same order with the heat on: froth on the hot setting, brew the shot into a warm glass, then pour in the milk and finish with the foam.
If iced lattes are a weekly habit, buy a setup with an Aeroccino. Everything else in the drink can be fixed later; that cannot.

How to clean a Nespresso milk frother

To clean a Nespresso milk frother, rinse every part that touches milk after each drink, wash it daily, take it apart weekly, and descale the machine every few months.
Milk is the part of a latte setup that needs the most care, and dried milk is the enemy of every frother here.

The milk-side routine

  1. After every drink: rinse the milk path

Aeroccino owners rinse the jug and whisk under warm water and wipe with a soft cloth. One-touch owners run the milk rinse the machine offers or prompts for.

Tip Never use an abrasive sponge in an Aeroccino. Scratches in the coating hold milk residue.

  2. Daily: empty and wash

Empty the capsule container and drip tray. Wash the Lattissima One jug and lid, and put the Vertuo Lattissima milk tank or the Aeroccino XL jug through the dishwasher.

Watch out The Aeroccino 3 never goes in a dishwasher, and its base must stay dry. The electrical contact sits underneath.

  3. Weekly: take the frother apart

Lift out the whisk and its spring and wash them separately. On one-touch machines, separate the frothing head from the jug or tank lid and wash each piece.

  4. Every few months: descale

Descale when the machine asks, or on the schedule in its manual for your water hardness. Filtered water stretches the interval considerably.

Nespresso's own troubleshooting for thin or failing foam points at the same two culprits again and again: a scratched coating and old milk residue.
Ten minutes a week on the milk side is the cheapest way to keep a latte setup working for years.

Frequently asked questions

Which Nespresso machine is best for lattes?

The Nespresso CitiZ & Milk is our pick for most people. It pairs an Original line espresso machine with an Aeroccino 3 frother on one base, makes hot or cold foam, and holds 4.6 stars across 2,253 Amazon ratings at the time of writing.

On a tighter budget, the Vertuo Pop+ Deluxe with Aeroccino does the same job for $139 and holds 4.4 stars across 1,202 ratings.

If you want one button from cold milk to finished drink, the Lattissima One and Vertuo Lattissima do that, but both sit at 3.9 stars.

Can a Nespresso machine make an iced latte?

Yes, but the cold part comes from the frother, not the coffee machine. The Aeroccino 3 and the Aeroccino XL both have a cold foam setting, so every setup on our list that includes one can top an iced latte properly.

Neither one-touch Lattissima on our list offers a cold foam setting. Their milk systems make hot drinks.

Vertuo machines can brew straight over ice, and the Vertuo Up adds a Coffee Creations button for a more concentrated shot meant for ice and milk.

How do you make a latte with a Nespresso machine?

Brew one or two espresso shots into a tall glass. Froth cold milk on the Aeroccino's hot foam setting, pour the milk into the glass while holding the foam back with a spoon, then spoon the foam on top.

On a one-touch machine such as the Lattissima One, fill the milk jug, set a glass under the spout and press the cappuccino or latte macchiato button.

For a 12 oz latte, one shot is the usual build. For 16 oz, use two Original capsules or one Vertuo Double Espresso pod.

How many Nespresso pods do you need for a latte?

It depends on the cup and the line. A 12 oz latte usually carries one espresso shot, which is one Original capsule or one Vertuo Espresso pod.

A 16 oz latte usually carries two shots. That is two Original capsules, or a single Vertuo Double Espresso pod, which brews 2.7 oz.

A 24 oz iced latte takes three shots: three Original capsules, or a Double Espresso plus a single Espresso on Vertuo.

Can you use oat milk in a Nespresso milk frother?

Yes. Start with cold, freshly opened milk, which is Nespresso's own advice for every frother it sells.

Barista-style oat drinks foam far better than ordinary cartons because they are formulated with added oil and stabilizers. Expect plant foam to be lighter than dairy and to settle sooner, so pour it right away.

Should you buy Vertuo or Original for lattes?

Choose Original if pod cost matters most. Original capsules come from Nespresso and from other roasters, and at the time of writing a two-shot latte ran about $1.14 to $1.80 in capsules on Amazon.

Choose Vertuo if you want one pod per two-shot latte and big mugs. A Vertuo Double Espresso pod ran about $1.35, and most Vertuo machines brew coffee sizes up to 18 oz.
